The mayor of Villa de Santiago was murdered this week. I used to spend lots of time there in the late 1990s doing my research for my book Delirio, in fact I wrote a chapter on Santiago. Its strange to think that so much has changed since I was living in Nuevo Leon. Its really sad for me because I have very dear friends there who made totally possible for me to write my book, but now I can't go see them. As the Abuelita gets older, I can't have any of those long conversations with her like I used to. Monterrey taught me a lot. I hope someday things get better and I can return.
