Want to save oil for the planet? Don't change your car oil so often. The State of California says that if people delay their oil changes (the current recommendation of 3,000 miles per change is way to low) "millions of gallons of oil annually" would be saved.
The LA Times published a link to a site that tells you how often you should really change your oil - Click

Los Angeles Times:
"The long-held notion that the oil should be changed every 3,000 miles is
so prevalent that California officials have launched a campaign to stop
drivers from wasting millions of gallons of oil annually because they
have their vehicles serviced too often."
