What is it about taxes?

Daschle, Geitner, and Kirk owed or owe back taxes.  There is another name I can't recall at the moment.  They all apologize, but that doesn't matter.  It is beginning to look like not paying all your taxes is more the norm that I thought.

A couple of years ago our income jumped up suddenly and on April 15 we found we owed $4,000.  That is a lot of money for two people who work at a university and an elementary school.  We borrowed the money and paid it right away.  This is not because we are such patriots and think our country needs our tax money so much (at least it didn't in 2007) - our prompt response was really due to my fear of the IRS.  They have been known to be brutal with middle class people, while letting the very wealthy and large corporations skate away.  I guess we can also add politicians to the list of those that get special treatment.
