Hillary campaign continues to court Hispanic vote in Houston

In a southeast Houston neighborhood known to be a Hispanic stronghold, over 1,000 people awaited a special visitor Sunday.

“The road to the White House is coming through our neighborhood. That was amazing,” Tim Rios said.

It was the Hillary campaign that swung through Mason Park.

And even though the New York senator wasn’t there in person, the people there had a message for the candidate.

“To keep constantly counting on the Hispanic vote. We’re out there. We’re a very large group, a large minority group,” Carolina Chavana said.

They’re also a group that could be critical to Clinton’s success in the Lone Star State.

So while Hillary was off in Ohio over the weekend, her favorite ground crew stayed behind.

Former President Clinton continued to rally support in the Bayou City.

“We need a president who will create more jobs, who will make this country energy independent,” he said.

His speech was just about 10 minutes long. It was one of six stops scheduled for Sunday, including College Station, Marshall, Wichita Falls and Abilene.

Earlier in the day, he and his daughter, Chelsea, joined thousands of worshippers at Lakewood Church.

There weren’t any campaign speeches, but the pair got valuable face time in a venue that’s more akin to an Obama rally in its size...
